About Devanshu (Dev) Tak
Working across film, television, advertising, games and interactive media, his career has always sat somewhere between the creative and technical worlds.
Originally studying mechanical engineering, he moved into media and entertainment and has spent the past eight years freelancing as a Technical and Creative Director, more recently adding film producing to the mix. That broad experience has also meant working across software including Houdini, Blender, Unreal Engine and Unity — environments where creative ideas and technical problem-solving often go hand in hand.
Unlike many people discovering vibe coding without any programming background, Dev already had experience with C, C++ and C#, including building a simple video game back in 2013 and later working with Unity before the arrival of LLMs.
More recently he has been scripting with VEX in Houdini.
What AI coding changed wasn't his ability to understand code, but the range of things he could realistically attempt. Suddenly, unfamiliar areas such as Houdini's Python API, OpenCL or web development became accessible without first having to master every detail. For him, that makes AI coding an order of magnitude faster and, more importantly, opens the door to projects that previously might never have been attempted.
That doesn't mean handing everything over to the machine. LLMs can misunderstand a prompt or confidently make assumptions that simply aren't correct, making a basic understanding of computer systems and how these models operate particularly useful. His most important advice is therefore about retaining ownership of the process: don't automatically accept the solution an AI recommends. Discuss the options with it, question why it has chosen a particular approach and use that conversation to make a better-informed decision yourself.
AI may dramatically expand what you can build, but the judgement about what should be built — and how — should remain with you.
